Sam Briggs Snatch

A week before clenching a silver medal & securing a trip to Carson at the Atlantic Regional, Sam Briggs suffered an avulsion fracture in her foot, news that would leave any athlete questioning whether their athletic season was over. At the time, the only plausible option seemed to be a stellar tape-job in order to get through Regionals, and surgery pre-Games, allowing for barely enough time to rehab her ankle back to health. Time was of the essence.

Today, Sam received news that potentially changed the game in her favor. As she posted on Instagram:

“…I had the best news ever from the surgeon… Even though I increased the fracture miraculously thanks to @talaynaf and her awesome taping job I didn’t displace the bone… Lots of rehab and therapy on the agenda but looks like I’ve avoided surgery…”

At the Atlantic Regional this past weekend, take into consideration the fact that Sam placed in the top 5 through 5 events, competing with a fractured foot. With a couple weeks to rehab and recover before heading to California, Sam is undoubtedly a viable candidate for The Fittest Woman On Earth, and has already proved she’s not going down without a fight.
