In mid January Michael Massik, CEO of USA Weightlifting, will be leaving USAW to join the National Strength And Conditioning Association (NSCA) as their new Executive Director.
After 12 years as Executive Director at USA Fencing and 3 years as CEO of USA Weightlifting, Massik is looking forward to bringing his experience running nonprofit membership based organizations to the NSCA: "I am excited to join the NSCA team and use my science training and sport leadership experience to best serve our members and help shepherd the organization in achieving its mission of being the worldwide authority on strength and conditioning."
The CEO position at USAW is selected by the Board of Directors, so we will likely see some more news about candidates to replace Massik and the entire process of selection in the next couple months.
Here's Michael Massik's official statement:
"Dear friends,
On January 16th, I will take on the responsibility of serving as Executive Director of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. This position is a perfect match for my training and background in both research science and sport administration and this is the only position that could pull me away from USA Weightlifting.
As I leave USA Weightlifting, I am overwhelmed with all of the positive changes that this organization has undergone since my arrival in September of 2012. In that short time, we have seen dramatic positive changes in our organizational stability, our membership base, our event structure, our coaching development, our financial stability, our standing within the International weightlifting community and the public awareness and profile of the sport of weightlifting.
The Board of Directors is currently in the process of forming a Search Committee and defining the process that they will use to find my replacement and I will assist them in this effort to the best of my ability.
Thank you all for being part of a tremendous experience in the transformation of this sport. I am confident that USA Weightlifting is on a positive track in every organizational aspect and I believe that all of the recent successes will continue and expand in the coming years.
Michael"
