2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Torokhtiy Rocks An AMA On Reddit
Aleksey Torokhtiy (UKR) won the 2012 Olympics in the Men's 105kg weight class and has since then made his presence known by offering programming, training tips, and general weightlifting knowledge on YouTube and his Facebook.

He's still incredibly strong and has a lot to offer both new and experienced weightlifters and yesterday he held an AMA ("Ask Me Anything") on Reddit where he answered questions from weightlifters and weightlifting fans on various topics from whether he'll compete in 2016 to why his program starts so light.

Here are some of my favorite questions and his answers:

  • Q: Did you finish your degree at university? If so, what degree did you earn?
    • A: I finished the Kharkiv Aerospace University. "The control system of flying machines and systems"
  • Q: Are you competing in 2016?
    • A: Yeah, HOOKGRIP Spartakiad. I'm going to lift my best weight for last 3 years.
  • Q: What are your best squat numbers? Back squat and Front Squat namely.
    • A: BS - 270kg/595lb*3 (I can do more, but I've never done before. I consider it..a stupid idea) FS - 280kg/618lb
  • Q: On your programs why is everything so light? All the %'s are very low.
    • A: Low % for first two weeks. Later you'll see me in your dreams while sleeping;-D I can't give you heavy load, cause you need to be prepared.
