Regionals may be at the forefront of most CrossFit minds, but in a small country in the North Atlantic Ocean some of the best athletes in the world will sharpen their competitive edge at the Iceland WOW Throwdown. So who can you expect to give us a show before Meridian regionals? Check it out:

Annie Thorisdottir

Annie is a consistent favorite, and for good reason. 6x CrossFit Games competitor, 2x CrossFit Games Champion (she continues to remain the only woman to do so twice), 4x Europe Regionals Champion, and 2x CrossFit Open Champion. Looking at this year, she had an notable 4th place finish in the European Region and 10th place finish overall in the Open. At the end of the day, there’s something to be said about an athlete who has stood on the podium at the Games, let alone 4 times.

Sara Sigmundsdottir

Finishing just above Annie in this year’s CrossFit Open, Sara came in 2nd in the European Region and 4th overall. She also walked away with a win at the 16.4 Open Announcement over reigning Games Champion, Katrin Davidsdottir. Last year she had a 1st place finish at Meridian Regionals and a 3rd place finish at the Games. While Annie won the Open last year, it was Sara who ended up standing on the podium at the Games.

Thuridur Erla Hegladottir

While Thuri’s name may not have the same instant recognition as Annie or Sara, the 24-year-old was referred to as “the small girl that’s freakishly strong” by one of her teammates, and that was back in 2014. Thuri managed to finish 28th at the Games last year as an individual, and 10th in the European Region of this year’s Open. She finished only one spot below Brooke Ence, at 46th worldwide.

Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson

Björgvin finished 1st in the European Region and 9th overall in this year’s Open. While he didn’t take a win over Dan Bailey at the 16.2 Open Announcement, it’s fair to say they don’t select just any athletes for Open Announcements, a testament to his impressive performance the last few years. Last year he finished 3rd in the European Region and 35th worldwide in the Open. He took 2nd at Meridian Regionals and 3rd at the Games.
