Russia has withdrawn its appeal of the one-year ban served to them by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) in July of 2016.
The Russian Weightlifting Federation has withdrawn its appeal on the one year ban from weightlifting the International Weightlifting Federation handed down in July of 2016.
Part of the IWF's course of action following the International Olympic Committee's retesting of samples from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics was to implement a one-year ban for any federation which had three or more positive doping results from the retests.
Russia's ban resulted in some of the best weightlifters in the world missing the Rio Olympics. It's currently unclear when this ban will begin and end as doping bans usually do not begin until all appeals are wrapped up.
