To take a stand with Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, Boston-based Reebok is featuring a viral feminist slogan on a shirt and donating the proceeds to the Women's March organization.

"We watched this week as our own state['s] senator was 'silenced' by her critics for doing her job," Dan Mazei, a senior director at Reebok, said. "As dismayed as we were, we were also reignited by the rallying cry of, 'Nevertheless, She Persisted.'"

Intended as a criticism, the phrase turned into a source of inspiration for women across the United States after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said it earlier this week to suppress Warren's denouncement of Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions' nomination for attorney general. Warren was reading from a letter by Coretta Scott King when McConnell halted her by citing Rule XIX, which intends to prevent senators from degrading each other.

"She was warned. She was given an explanation," McConnell said. "Nevertheless, she persisted."

Reebok is donating $20 from each shirt sold to the Women's March campaign during the first 100 days of President Donald Trump's term. The shirt, which was designed by a woman, sold out quickly when it debuted yesterday on Reebok's online store, but the company is producing more to meet the high demand. Shoppers can still pre-order the shirts, which are expected to be ready for shipping on Feb. 21, 2017.

Under the shirt's "Product Features" section online, Reebok listed the following:

Deep down inside of us there’s a powerful form of hope that can’t be crushed by any setback. We see a better day ahead and we will continue to take a stand and fight alongside those who deserve to be heard.

  • A rallying cry was born on February 7th, 2017 for women who refused to be silenced
  • For every “Nevertheless, She Persisted” t-shirt sold, Reebok will donate $20 to Women’s March
  • Achieving your goals takes determination, courage and most importantly persistence
"We are inspired and empowered by the senator's recent statements and these t-shirts are our way of showing our support for all women who continue to persist and break down barriers," Reebok senior director of brand management Inga Stenta said in a press release.

It's not the first time Reebok has thrown its hat in the ring for women's equality—the company launched its #PerfectNever campaign with fashion model Gigi Hadid last year after she punched a man who grabbed her in Italy.
