Eddie Hall Might 'Test The Waters' With Weightlifting
Eddie Hall Might 'Test The Waters' With Weightlifting
2017 World's Strongest Man Eddie Hall is mulling over the possibility of competing in weightlifting.
Eddie Hall is Britain's Strongest Man, the World's Strongest Man, and might have his eyes on being an Olympian in weightlifting as well. According to the U.K.'s Daily Express, Hall's Olympic aspirations stretch back to when swimming was his primary sport as a young man. Though Hall was the No. 1-ranked freestyle swimmer in all distances as an 11-year-old, his Olympic track was derailed after falling out with an overbearing coach. Shortly after that, Hall started lifting weights while being home schooled.

The 29-year-old Brit has incredible strength; he can deadlift 500kg/1102lb and strict press a 216kg/476lb axle, both of which are world records. He can also squat a house, so his ability to move weight is certainly there.

Hall's biggest challenges as an Olympic weightlifter would be technique and mobility. Strongmen aren't always the most mobile athletes, and the most efficient ways to snatch and clean and jerk in the weightlifting rule sets could punish Hall, especially with the snatch. That said, Hall's work ethic is legendary, and his ability to focus and train is nearly unmatched.
I would love to see Hall compete in weightlifting in the same way I would love to see Hall compete in powerlifting. He's the World's Strongest Man and one of the greatest strength athletes of all time. Seeing him compete in more strength sports would be an incredibly fun experience.
Do you think Eddie Hall has what it takes to be competitive as a weightlifter on an international level?
