Uesaka Tests Tokyo 2020 Platform With 300kg Barbell Drop From Overhead
Uesaka tests Tokyo 2020 Olympic weightlifting platform by dropping a 300kg barbell onto it with a unique guillotine contraption.
Weightlifting platforms are designed to take massive amounts of abuse, with hundreds of thousands of pounds of weights dropping onto them over the course of an international weightlifting meet. Ever wondered how weightlifting platforms are tested to ensure they won't break at the highest levels of competition? Maybe this video of Uesaka dropping a barbell onto one of the Tokyo 2020 platforms could give you some insight:

I'm not 100% sure the height from which the bar is being dropped, but it seems to be at least near nine feet. While the caption mentions Uesaka went all the way up to a 300kg/661lb barbell, it looks like this is merely a 275kg/606lb barbell. Now if only we can see Lasha Talakhadze and Alexey Lovchev go head to head in Tokyo, we may actually see a clean & jerk new 275kg in competition!
