Games athletes Kaleena Ladeairous, Anna Tunnicliffe, Christy Adkins, Talayna Fortunato, and Cassidy Lance also took on Event 1 with varying amounts of success.
Adkins didn’t make it out of the round of eight snatches at 145 lbs, which gave her a poorer finish than she was likely expecting. She’ll have to step up in the remaining events to prevent a repeat of last year, when she missed qualifying by one spot.
Fortunato finished eighth in Event 1, but may have hurt her elbow in the process. Hopefully, she can stay healthy and compete the remainder of the weekend.
Just ahead of Fortunato, Tunnicliffe finished seventh. With a top-10 finish in an event with heavy snatches, Tunnicliffe must be feeling good about the rest of the weekend.
Ladeairous has returned to individual competition after her team finished second last year at the Games. Although a 20th-place finish probably isn’t what she was expecting, she’s got some events she could excel in headed her way this weekend.
Sitting in second going into Event 2, Lance is looking good in her bid to return to the Games.
