Going into the West Regionals, all eyes were on CrossFit Marysville and CrossFit Fort Vancouver.
Marysville placed third at the Games in 2014. And Fort Vancouver, which finished as the runner-up in 2011, was chasing its eighth trip to the Games. But the showstoppers in Events 1 and 2 ended up being Boise CrossFit Rainbow.
In Event 1, Marysville's first two pairs of team members ended up on the finish mat first, but if you blinked, you probably missed Boise CrossFit Rainbow edge out Marysville by a matter of seconds to finish the event. Last weekend, only 24/98 teams finished Event 1, which speaks to Boise CrossFit Rainbow’s strong performance.
Fort Vancouver was unable to finish the event. Beleaguered by injury, they had to substitute one of their historically strong athletes, which brought up questions as to how they would perform throughout the weekend compared to years past.

In Event 2, eyes were once again on Marysville, which is known for its experienced and powerful lifters. While none of the teams were able to complete all the reps, only one team had a team member complete all of the lifts for the men: Boise CrossFit Rainbow.
When it was the women’s turn for Event 3, we saw one athlete make it across the finish line in the first two heats. In the final heat, we saw three teams with athletes on the finish mat at the time cap. Undefeated CrossFit took the event win with two of their women completing all 15 reps and getting onto the finish mat.
At the end of Day 1, Boise CrossFit Rainbow sits in first place, and 20 points ahead of second-place Marysville. Fort Vancouver finished the first day in eighth.
