The first day of the West Regionals is in the rearview mirror, but all eyes are on the road ahead for the rest of the weekend. So, what did we see Friday?
In the team competition, all eyes were on CrossFit Fort Vancouver and CrossFit Marysville. Marysville placed third at the Games in 2014. And Fort Vancouver, which finished as the runner-up at the 2011 Games, was chasing its eighth trip to the Games. But the showstoppers in Events 1 and 2 ended up being Boise CrossFit Rainbow. In Event 1, it looked as if Sager would take the event win for his heat, but out of nowhere, Vale impressively maneuvered his way through his second squat snatch at 265 lbs. The save left the crowd in awe, and put him in third place after Event 1. Catch the full Event 1 recap here.
Going into Event 2, hopes were high for Courtney Walker, who has reportedly done 62 strict, free-standing handstand push-ups. In the end, gymnast Carleen Matthews took the event win, while Walker earned fourth. But it was Wright in the first heat who snapped up the second-place finish for the event. The finish pushed her to first place overall at the end of the day. Catch the full Event 2 recap here.
