The final event of the West Regional weekend was a race between CrossFit Fort Vancouver and Spokane Valley. If the two teams would have finished close, Fort Vancouver would have gone to Carson, so Spokane Valley not only needed to beat them, but they needed enough teams to finish between them in order to qualify.
Spokane Valley was the first to the rope from the beginning, but Fort Vancouver had their first woman to the finish mat first. From there, the two teams were almost synchronized, especially during the men’s turn. In the end, Spokane pulled ahead and set a new fastest time of the day: 23:43.
As soon as their final teammate crossed the finish mat, it became a question of how many teams would finish between them and Fort Vancouver. If the last male competitor of Fort Vancouver finished the event within the time cap, his team would go to the Games. He finished with a little over 20 seconds to spare, and Fort Vancouver locked up third place at the West Regionals. This will be Fort Vancouver’s eighth trip to Carson, which ties CrossFit Invictus out of California for total team trips. Spokane Valley finished in sixth.
In the first weekend of Regionals, we didn't see any teams finish the final event in the time cap. In the West Regional this afternoon we saw three teams do it.
Boise CrossFit Rainbow stayed in the mix at the end of the day, finishing fourth in the event. While it was their lowest finish of the weekend, they still managed to have the highest “lowest” finish of any teams in the first two weekends of Regionals.
